We are announcing the launch of the UDIH national training program – an initiative aimed at accelerating the digital transition in the water and energy utilities in Bulgaria.

The program is free of charge and offers flexible training tailored to the real needs of operators.

The program is structured in two modules—basic and specialized training—combining a total of 15 courses that can be combined or taken sequentially, ensuring a flexible and progressive learning process. Topics cover areas such as digital strategy, data management, automation, cybersecurity, and green goals.

What does the program offer?

  • A total of 15 topics in two modules: 6 basic and 9 specialized training courses (GIS, SCADA, ERP, CIS, digital twins, etc.)
  • Flexible structure – courses can be taken individually or as a sequential program
  • Hybrid format – online and in-person learning
  • Practical training at the Center for Digital Technologies for the utilities sector – real data, demonstrations and exercises
  • Long-term program until 2027 – with flexible schedules and opportunities for gradual inclusion of operator teams, ensuring minimal impact on work processes
  • UDIH certificate for acquired digital competences, in line with the European DigComp framework
  • Education trip to Europe – the best performers will take part in an international training program to share experiences and good practices

The first phase of the program, which starts in November 2025, focuses on the water and energy sectors.

The training courses are conducted by the Technical University of Sofia, Plovdiv branch, the Higher School of Security and Economics (VUSI), and the Bulgarian Water Association (BWA). The content of the modules reflects the real needs of operators and is based on a detailed analysis of the digital readiness of the various levels of personnel involved in the management and maintenance of water supply and sewerage systems in the country. The training process will be tailored to the digital readiness of participants and will include tests to assess progress.

The initiative is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Innovation and Growth and the European Commission through the Research, Innovation and Digitalization for Smart Transformation Program (PNIIDIT) 2021–2027, with funding under the de minimis mechanism.
